E.1027: Eileen Gray and the House by the Sea

cinema Modernissimo

The programming in collaboration with the Cineteca di Bologna resumes with a docufilm dedicated to architecture for holidays. Between 1926 and 1929, Eileen Gray designed, together with her partner Jean Badovici, Villa E-1027, a summer residence on the French Riviera. \nAt the end of the thirties, Le Corbusier, a regular guest of the house, decided to build the Cabanon nearby, a machine à habiter able to satisfy all the needs of the holiday in a small space.
\nThe relations between Le Corbusier and Gray, already very tense due to the former's dominant personality, are finally compromised when the French architect invades the purity of the villa's design with some murals. The film reconstructs this unexpected and crucial story.
