in girum imus nocte

incontri in biblioteca

Through the essays of Elisabetta Masala and Massimiliano Mollona and the artist's conversations with the workers of Carbosulcis S.p.a., 'in girum imus nocte' by Giorgio Andreotta Calò is a book that reflects, ten years later, on the meaning and legacy of a symbolic action documented by the film of the same name shot in Sulcis. \nOn the night of December 4, 2014, the day of Saint Barbara, protector of bomb squad and miners, Andreotta Calò went on a ritual march together with the miners of the last coal mining plant in Italy, which was still active at the time. Ending on the island of Sant'Antioco, on the coast illuminated by a burning boat, the procession allowed the community to gather around an alchemical moment of transformation. \n The volume explores the anthropological and political value of collective ritual as an instrument of resistance and regeneration.
