The Melt Goes On Forever: The Art & Times of David Hammons

cinema Modernissimo

Through archival footage and testimonies from artists and historians, 'The Melt Goes On Forever: The Art and Times of David Hammons' traces the career of David Hammons (Springfield, 1943) from the '60s to today, exploring his link with African-American culture, from the Watts uprisings to New York in the 80s. \n The film documents the evolution of his practice - between performance, sculpture and social criticism - presenting iconic works made with recycled materials, such as the monumental baskets of 'Higher Goals' or the famous 'Bliz-Aard Ball Sale' action in 1983, during which the artist sold snowballs in the street. The story is punctuated by a soundtrack that reflects Hammons' approach, mixing Afrojazz, hip hop and rhythms produced with found objects.
